I am an Irish South African artist and creative entrepreneur based in Cork, Ireland. I started oil painting in 2016 at age 45, while we owned 5-star, art-themed B&Bs in Durban, South Africa. I painted with a group of practicing artists at Studio 3, and in March 2020 had a successful solo exhibition at The Foyer @ Studio 3 in Durban. Over the years, I exhibited at the prestigious Hilton Arts Festival, and sold through my own art gallery and a variety of other art platforms.
My style can be described as Contemporary Realism and I paint in Oil on activated stretched canvas. With bright, bold brushstrokes and vibrant, up-beat colour, I paint my happy memories captured on my phone. Each painting has a story and I paint anything: portraits, landscapes, wildlife, birds, seascapes, cityscapes, florals etc. The bigger the better! I love doing special occasion commissions for clients and partnering on interior design projects and have been blessed to journey with special clients while their bespoke piece of art is created and curated especially for them.
Art has always been part of my life journey, and combining this with my Hospitality, Networking and People skills, means that I have been able to approach my art career from a different perspective to most artists. Currently my work is on display in the newly renovated Back of House areas and Employee Restaurant of the beautiful Montenotte Hotel in Cork, where I work as the People & Culture Manager. I have exhibited through Kinsale Arts Weekend, at Christmas and Craft fairs and have earmarked key platforms for 2024 and beyond.
I have loved learning a new industry in two different countries. I am thrilled that I have clients and collectors from all over the world who have bought my original oil paintings, including America, Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland, South Africa, Ghana, Japan, Caribbean, Reunion Island, and Sweden.
I look forward to growing my Emma Jacobs Art as an emerging artist here in Ireland!
